Detailed Symptoms
There are many symptoms that make up the 3
primary types of Attention Deficit Disorder:
Inattention + distractibility and/or hyperactivity + impulsive
behavior are the major symptoms involved in the Attention Deficit
Disorder symptom list. Here are some symptoms based on those
three.If you find that many of these symptoms mirror your own you
might want to have an ADHD Test and try to get an adult Attention
Deficit Disorder diagnosis.
Below are some typical symptoms of
ADD and/or ADHD. There are more than just the listed symptoms, this
list is not extensive nor complete. This list will you give you an
overview of the typical ADHD - ADD symptoms.

People
with ADHD - ADD have trouble keeping still. When seated their
leg is bounching up and down, their hands are tapping on a
table, they're dancing in their seats or otherwise squirming
around.

People
with ADHD usually have trouble staying in their seats. Whether
students or adults - people with this disorder are often found
out of their seats and active, moving around. It does not mean
they are disobedient - they are just acting out the disorder.

Waiting
turn for something holds no appeal. Meaning, standing in line at
a bank or for lunch at school takes a real effort of will to
accomplish - and often times the person with ADD - ADHD just
can't wait. They may cut in line or come back later when there
is no line.

Implied
sense of urgency in speed to getting things done. There is an
internal drive to complete things quickly - whether that is
because the attention can only be focused in spurts and
long-term tasks are not withing the time limit - or not. The
person with ADHD - ADD appears rushed or anxious at most times.

Finishing
sentences of others' in conversation with.

Apparent
difficulty following complex or even simple directions when
there are more than 1 or 2.

Obvious
trouble maintaining attention during any work, play, or study.
Attention seems to jump around and not remain on one task.

Going
from task to task.

Sometimes
kids have a difficulty playing quietly. They are louder than
other kids, and might appear aggressive, rude, obnoxious, and
not sharing as much as other kids do.

Sometimes
they speak obsessively - like a running commentary or
instructions to everyone else involved in the same project.

Difficulty listening to what others are saying - seemingly
disinterested or lost in their own world.

Forgetfulness.
-
Sometimes
engages in dangerous behavior just for lack of stopping to think
through the consequences.

External
stimuli distract the person with ADHD - ADD. Any sensory stimuli
can interrupt the activity being attempted.
The following symptoms are for
the specific ADD sub type, called, "Inattention"
Both ADHD
or ADD sufferers often:
-
Cannot
pay attention to small details.
-
Commit
mistakes in schoolwork, work, or other areas of life because
they can't focus long enough to do it correctly.

Exhibits
difficulty holding attention on something boring... but, even
interesting activities don't necessarily hold attention for very
long.
-
Is
distracted by sights, sounds, hot/cold, and other sensory
stimuli.
-
Has
difficulty completing instructions and fails often to finish
homework and other duties not self-imposed.
-
Exhibits
poor organizational skills.
-
Puts
uninteresting tasks off until the last minute... or avoids them
altogether.
-
Misplaces
things.
-
Exhibits
forgetfulness.
-
Does not
follow instructions to the letter.
-
Appears
not to be listening when spoken to directly.
The following
symptoms are for the specific ADD sub type, called, "Hyperactivity /
Impulsive ADHD"
People with
Hyperactivity - Impulsive type often:

Cannot
sit still in their seat or keep their hands and feet motionless.

Cannot
seem to sit in a chair when it's proper behavior.
-
Runs
around often in social situations when should be sitting down in
a chair.
-
Doesn't
usually play quietly.
-
Nonstop
action, always going, moving, doing
-
Verbalizes incessantly.
-
Says
answers in class before hearing the end of the question or
answers people's questions before they finish asking them.
-
Displays
inability to wait for a turn in doing something.
-
Interrupts or intrudes without proper social politeness. Can't
seem to stop self - just acts on impulse.
-
Is
restless.
Realize that
all of these behaviors occur in children without ADHD or ADD. The
diagnosis is made when symptoms are profound and regularly occurring...
the word "often" is used repeatedly when using diagnostic criteria
for ADD - ADHD behavior.
To sum it up...
There are many behaviors that all add up to the
diagnosis of ADHD - ADD. One or two symptoms does not make a
diagnosis, nor do all of them for brief instances. The key word
appears to be "often" in terms of these behaviors exhibited over
time.
