ADHD Preschool KidsKids in preschool with ADHD are sometimes tough to diagnose... and rightly so. Some parents are, what I would consider, 'overly sensitive' and quick to label a child with ADHD. Preschool is a period during a child's youth where some natural proclivities are seen and assumed to be lifelong behavioral traits. Parents become afraid that their child will continue with the maladaptive behaviors they witness during preschool years. With ADHD preschool is too early to diagnose it in your child. There are, as you probably know, phases children go through behaviorally. Preschool is a time for working out proper and improper social behavior... sharing, patience... A child who is revved up 90% of the time he spends in preschool might be that way because a parent feeds them junk food for breakfast. Maybe they have a naturally active style. Preschool children misdiagnosed by parents as ADHD might have been taught by parents to act irrespective of peers. Or to bully peers. It happens. Preschool is a good time to take a look at what you're child is like. What is her personality? Is she aggressive? Can you reason out why that might be? Is your child rude to other kids? Parental guidelines can often curb socially inappropriate behavior at home and have it carry-over into the preschool classroom. Don't be too fast to judge your Preschool kids as having ADHD or any other behavioral issue. But, don't ignore obvious signs - if your child has every symptom listed in the DSM-IV manual for adults - you're probably on to something and maybe should schedule an appointment with a child therapist and see if there's anything you can do at this early stage of the child's development.
To sum it up...
