ADHD Teens
Teens with ADHD are a special
population that demands your 100% effort.
With teens with ADHD the primary problem
everyone runs into is school. Teenagers already have hormones
running wild through their bodies and if they also have ADD - ADHD
the potential for serious problems is there.
To sum it up...
ADHD teens are going to need to understand the issues
confronting them at a time when they're least able to understand
them - and least likely to want to understand how ADHD is tearing
apart their world. It seems no less serious than that I assure you.
Give your teen as much information as possible and go over all the
alternatives and likely outcomes of each treatment alternative.
Being sure not to omit the "no treatment" option and what it would
mean to your teenage child. Videos of firsthand experiences by other
teens on YouTube are particularly useful because your teen will no
doubt see similarities in their own situation. Be patient above all
else... teens with ADHD are possibly the hardest group to work with
due to the other coming of age issues that are implicit during the
teenage puberty years.
